 New Eagle Scout:

Last night Shane completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review and is now an Eagle Scout. Congratulations Shane!

No Meeting this week:
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful:
Troop 136 is blessed to have so many great families in our Troop!
We're thankful for all the Troop 136 Scouters and parents who volunteer their time to enrich the Scout experience for all of our sons, and for believing in the value of Scouting for these boys!

Enjoy your holiday!

Air Force Museum Campout Recap:
We have 19 Scouts in attendance and eight adults.  Dominic and Andrew completed their requirements for part of the Cooking Merit badge.  We had a lot of great bonding together at the museum, the hike and enjoyed a very nice facility that kept us warm and dry.

Sweatshirts will be ordered soon:
If you have not seen this link over the past two or three emails, here is the link again to sign up if you are interested.  I will be working to get these ordered on Monday 11/29. I am hopeful that we might have them by the 12/14 meeting, but if not, they will be available in January just in time for the cold weather campouts in January and February. Any orders received after Sunday 11/28 at midnight will not be part of this order and will have to wait another year.

Thunderbase sign up due on 11/30:
If you are interested in going to Thunderbase, plan to sign up before November 30th at 7 pm.  I will be making a payment during the meeting on November 30th for everyone that is signed up.   The cost of Thunderbase is $40.  Plan for an amazing time with so many activities that you will have to choose between several at the same time.  I have been to the two previous Thunderbase events and both have been amazing!  Here is the link to sign up.

We will be camping at the First Presbyterian Church on 12/10.  We will have pizza ordered on Friday night at about 6:30 pm and Cracker Barrel will be at about 9 pm.  We will also have breakfast on Saturday morning.  I know we have a few Scouts that might be working on their Cooking Merit Badge for Desserts on Friday night, so this might be a great opportunity to do so.  Plan to have some fun playing card games or electronic games.
Note:  Whatever you bring on Friday night must go with you to Vertical Adventures.  There is a group that will be a group using the facility on Saturday morning at 10 am, so we will not be able to leave items at the church for you to pick up later.  This includes sleeping gear as well.
We will plan to leave the church on Saturday morning at 8:20 am to be at Vertical Adventures just before they open at 9 am.
We will be in the Activity Uniform the entire weekend.  Plan for fun and come ready to have fun!

MVSR Merit Badge College Campout on January 21-23 and on February 18-20:
Based on the feedback we had from the Scouts at the PLC, we will camp at MVSR during January and February in the cabins.  A lot of the Scouts wanted to participate in the Merit Badge college.  I will rent the Straker building that has heat and electricity for the weekends in January and February.  Here is information about the Straker building that we will stay in for both weekends.  It can sleep 16 in the rooms and there can be a lot more Scouts in the main area on cots. This will give us room to eat and have fun during the winter months.
If you want to go, you will need to register for the merit badge clinic on your own. It costs $30 to register for the merit badge college and you may choose up to three merit badges.  There are a good number of Eagle Scout merit badges available to choose from at this event.  The cost for the campout each month will be $30($15 for cabin and $15 or food). Here is the link: 2022 MVSR Merit Badge College
There are three weekends for these merit badges: January 22 8:30 am -1:00 pm, February 19 8:30 - 1:00 pm and March 19 8:30 - 1:00 pm.  We will camp for the first two weekends, but since we have a campout already scheduled in March, those that are participating in the college may carpool to the event the last month to finish off the merit badges.
Here is more information about the three merit badges they can sign up for at this merit badge college:  Merit Badges included: Cooking (limited capacity), Communications (limited capacity), Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Personal Management, Personal Fitness, Family Life, Emergency Preparedness, Geocaching, Forestry, Soil & Water Conservation, Journalism, Indian Lore, and American Heritage.

Meeting Plan for 11/16:
Here is the meeting plan created by the PLC:  11/16

New Senior Patrol Leader:
David S. has been elected as the new SPL.  Congratulations David!  He is working on his PLC list and will finalize it tonight before we have our Patrol Leader Elections.

Air Force Museum Campout(11/9):
I will be working on vehicle assignments and will be asking the new SPL for help with creating the Patrols that will be cooking together.  We will share this later tonight at the meeting. We have 18 Scouts in attendance and will have six adults.  Dominic and Andrew will be taking care of the food for the Patrol Cooking.  One of the items that Dominic and Andrew asked for help with was any food allergies.  We only know of a peanut allergy, so please let us know if you have another allergy.  They will be creating assignments to help with food over the weekend.

Patrol Leader Elections (11/16):
Patrol Leader Elections are today!  You will elect your Patrol Leader in your Patrol Meetings.  Be sure that your Patrol knows that you are interested in running and don't forget to ask a friend to nominate you if you are interested in taking a leadership role within your Patrol.

Sweatshirts sign up due on 11/16:
I have looked for a fleece hoody, but this might be a sweatshirt jacket with no hoody.  I am not able to find a reasonable priced red microfleece hoody. Here is the link to sign up if you are interested.

Invitation to Daughters of the Revolution Presentation on 11/17 at 6:30 pm:
The church has asked how many will be attending tomorrow night.  I need to get them an answer by tonight.  Sorry for the short notice.  I was not aware they were asking for RSVP and they were not, but they wanted to know how many were coming so they could plan.  I will be asking at the meeting tonight to see how many people are coming to this event.

Grove City Mayor’s Breakfast – October 6, 2021

Our scouts did a great job this morning at the Mayor’s Breakfast representing Troop 136 and Simon Kenton Council.  They performed the opening flag ceremony and gave the invocation.  Each Scout also spoke to the crowd about their experience in Scouting and the challenges that they had to overcome in order to advance during the pandemic.   Great job Scouts!

This year’s honoree was Grove City’s former Chief of Police, Ron Gabriel.
Ron is also a past member of Troop 136.  Congratulations Ron!

October Email #1

 Hi Troop 136!

We had a fun, but wet campout this past weekend.  We have had two great weekends of camping.  Our next opportunity to go camping will be at the end of the month. The focus of this campout will be some training for basic Scouting skills.

New Scout Campout(10/29-10/31):
If you are a Scout and are interested in helping out, please let me know what you would like to do.
If you are an Scouter (adult leader) and are interested in helping out, please let me know you are interested in helping.

Permission Forms:
At our committee meeting tonight, there was some discussion about the timing of the sign up for the campouts.  Going forward, we will ask that permission slips be turned  a week and a half ahead of time.  So it would be two meetings before our campouts.

Popcorn:
Total sales for popcorn will be awarded at the December 14th meeting.
Popcorn prizes:
$50 gift card - 1st Place in sales
$25 gift card - 2nd Place in sales
$10 gift card - 3rd Place in sales

Earn more Pie in the Face opportunities:
If you have sold six popcorn items between the beginning of the popcorn sales and next Tuesday, 10/12, you will have one more pie in the face for Mr. Freeman.
If you sell an additional six items of popcorn between 10/12 and 10/26, you will have one more pie in the face added for Mr. Freeman.
The goal for sales for every Scout is $300.  If you sell $300 in popcorn, you get one more pie opportunity.  This can be done by asking friends and neighbors.  We have some Scouts selling, but a lot of others are waiting.  Good luck selling and I hope that you are able to get some extra pies.

Pie in the Face:
1 pie for every rank earned during the year
1 pie for every Eagle Scout Merit Badge earned during the year
1 pie for every three merit badges earned during the year

August Email #3

Hi Troop 136!

Reminder: Bring your bicycles tonight!
We will be walking through the bicycle rodeo in preparation for Thursday at 6 pm.  Be here at 5:45 pm.
Elias will be asking for volunteers to help with this activity and you get service hours for helping.

John Fuller has received the quarterly statement from Kroger Rewards program.  Please send him a copy of your receipt via email that you have in rewards and he will post them to your Scout account.  His email is: jwf2461@hotmail.com

8/22 Eagle Scout Court of Honor - Caleb Caldwell
Caleb has invited the Troop to his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on August 22.  If you would like to help, here is a sign up for Scouts to help.  Sign up for your rank.

Popcorn Information:
Hello Troop 136 (and parents)! I will be your Popcorn Kernel this year, and am excited to help lead this important fundraising effort. As you might know, the Scouts BSA popcorn sale is one of our biggest annual fundraisers, and money that you help raise will be credited to your Scout account (which can be used to offset dues, camping fees, uniform costs, and certain other Scout-related purchases).

We strongly encourage all of our Scouts to participate in the sale — not only to reduce your out-of-pocket costs for Scouting, but also because your participation builds experience with presenting, selling, and achieving goals. The sale will kick off in earnest early next month, and you’ll be receiving more information from me soon…as well as will have a chance to sample some of the goodies we’ll be asking you to sell.

If you’d like to get a jump on selling, online sales are ALREADY UNDERWAY! You can participate in the online sale simply by providing a customized link to interested buyers — no door-to-door sales are necessary. Your buyers will have access to an expanded selection of products which will be shipped to them at no extra cost. You also have an extended window in which to sell products online — from now all the way till December 3! Interested? Please reach out to me via email(troop136.popcorn@icloud.com)to obtain your customized selling link.

I am also seeking parental volunteers to assist with the popcorn sale. I am specifically seeking someone who can help seek out and schedule in-person sales events outside of local businesses, etc. If you are able to assist, please reach out to me via email attroop136.popcorn@icloud.com.

Thanks for your help in making this year’s sale the most successful ever!

Troop Meetings:
Troop Meetings continue to meet for the rest of the summer on Tuesday nights beginning at 7:00 pm.  If you need to meet with me to discuss any advancements from either summer camp, please send me an email.  I will be reviewing and updating the Scoutbook website.

Scoutbook:
If you do not have access to Scoutbook, please let me know.  I can set you up in Scoutbook so that you have access to see your son's progress in his merit badges and rank requirements.

Please take time to complete the survey with your Scout between now and July 31.  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScPYDP_1rbhfPo-sqrKqgxNx9urY8-McWwAPmljoCZhnSD5eA/viewform

Troop Meetings:
Troop Meetings continue to meet for the rest of the summer on Tuesday nights beginning at 7:00 pm.  If you need to meet with me to discuss any advancements from either summer camp, please send me an email.  I will be reviewing and updating Scoutbook website between now and the meeting on Tuesday, 7/20.  I will send out the reports to each family once I am done.

Scoutbook:
If you do not have access to Scoutbook, please let me know.  I can set you up in Scoutbook so that you have access to see your son's progress in his merit badges and rank requirements.

Flight 91 Permission Form:
Roland Guay will be the Scoutmaster for this trip.  I will not be able to attend.  Here is the permission form, but the time and cost may be changed slightly based on feedback from the July Committee Meeting on 7/18.  I will share again with any updated information that might be changed.

I had a discussion with a Scout at summer camp that said his parents did not know the plan for the campouts. Here is the current Yearly Plan for 2020-2021:
I will be sharing our 2021-2022 schedule in late August or September.  I believe planning is the key to success.  Make a plan and make it happen!

June

As we finish school and start to look toward all of the many summer activities, I want to focus on summer camp for Camp Ransburg and Chief Logan.

Camp Ransburg Summer Camp:
If you have not seen it yet, here is the 2021 Ransburg Camping Guide.  We are going here June 27-July3.

We will plan to leave at 8 am on Sunday morning. Be there at 7:30 and pack a lunch.  We will eat our lunch when we arrive at the campsite and start to set up.  This time is different from the permission slip because we need to be ready to check in at 1 pm.

Please use this sheet to fill out your tent needs.  If you want to be by yourself, please mark it like I did with a black fill.  If you want to bring your own tent, please include your name on the list.  Please complete this by Tuesday night, June 15th!

I will not be able to check this list as I will not be able to follow up.  Please help Roland and Christa with completing your information before Tuesday night, June 15!  Please complete this so that they do not have to follow up with you by phone or email.  We need to share this with the camp on Wednesday, June 16th so that our tents are setup when we arrive.

If you still want to go, please see the two forms attached.  Work with Roland and Christa regarding payment:

Chief Logan Summer Camp:
We will plan to leave at noon unless I learn otherwise.  I will share the time with you for sure on Tuesday, July 6th:
If you still want to go, you are more than welcome to join us.  Here is the permission slip again:

June 15 and June 22 Meetings:
I will be gone for the next two weeks.  Roland Guay will be the Scoutmaster for the next two meetings. Christa will also help as the Committee Chair.

Yearly Plan:
Every Scout will have the opportunity to complete a form regarding activities they want to participate in over the next 18 months.  I will share this in my next email, but here is the program guide that you might want to review with your Scout(s).  We will have your Scout choose from this list for their activities.  Scroll down when you visit the website to see the list I include in the next email:

PLC:
Please plan to meet between 3 pm and 6 pm on Sunday, July 18 to finalize the plan for the Yearly Plan and to prepare the next two months of meetings plans.

May

We will be meeting inside the Family Center of the church for the Court of Honor tonight.  This is the same place we normally meet, but you will enter a different door.  Please enter the building by the door to the kitchen. If possible, please show up by 6:45 pm to help with setting up the metal chairs.  You will be asked to follow some protocols when you arrive.  There might be a temperature check station and you will be asked to wear a mask.  There will also be hand sanitizer available.  We will clean the chairs before they are put away.  Parents are welcome to attend.  We will have the chairs separated for social distancing.  There are a total of 60 people that can be in attendance at one time.  I don't anticipate that we will reach this number, but wanted to be sure to share with you the total allowed in the building.

T-Shirts for summer camp:
We will have shirts available for purchase at the Court of Honor.  Robin Bernhardt has agreed to help.  You can bring cash or a check to pay for the shirts or you may also choose to purchase the shirts using your Scout account.  The shirts are $7.50 each or $37.50 for five shirts.  We will have all of the colors and sizes of the shirts available (Adults Small - Adult XXXL).  We wear one color for each day of summer camp.  They are the polyester and are quick to dry.  They are great shirts during the summer and winter.  In the past we have in the past only worn the Class B shirts between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but the Senior Patrol Leader gets to make that call.  :)

Secret Trip SignUp Genius to help with the number of people for meals and tickets:
I made a sign up to help you know how much the costs would be on the trip.  There are a few of you who might not be joining us for all of the meals and for all of the events.  I thought having a way to select the meals you will be participating with the troop will help with the cost of the trip for you might be the best option.  You can opt in or out of the different meals.  The Scouts will plan to eat all of their meals with the Troop.  If you are camping in the same camp area or another camp area, you can choose your meals. Please let me know if you have any questions or need help with the signup.  Please sign up by Thursday night.  I will send out a list on Thursday night to everyone to be sure we have the totals on the trip. I understand that if you add up the total costs, it is more than the $75 that we are collecting, but the cost of the food and the cost of the reservation location may be less depending on the total number of people going.

Secret Trip Communication:
I will be sharing a Life360 app link on Tuesday, May 25th for those involved in the trip.  I have used this app in the past and it is a great way to find out where people are located and for messaging.  You may still use the Band app to post pictures. You can choose to be part of the Life 360 group and share your location or you can join and turn off your locations, but at least you can see where I am at during the trip.

Darryl wanted for me to share this with you for the secret trip:
Hello Scouts, Scouters and parents.  I am Darryl Betz, the grubmaster for the Secret trip.  I need to know if anyone has a food allergy or is a coffee drinker.  Please call him by May 19th.  If you are gluten free or a vegan bring your own food and we will assist you in preparing it.  If there are any other questions relating to food, please call me.

Attached is the Court of Honor handout.  We will have some available at the Court of Honor meeting as well.

Here is the May Newsletter created by the PLC!

Backpacking Trip 5/14-16:
We had a lot of fun this past weekend at Zaleski.  We had two Scouts earn their Scout ranks and a few more earn advancements toward their next rank.  We slept two at two different locations, one at the State park and another night on the trail.  We hiked 8 miles with backpacks and another 4 miles without backpacks.  We had amazing weather and even when there was some precipitation, it was short and was done by morning.  We even got to stop at Dairy Queen for a treat after the hike.  There were five Scouts and two adults who went camping.  Thanks to Roland Guary for being the second adult on the trip.
