Church sleepover:
This weekend, the church is not available until after 8:30.  There is a church potluck on Friday night.  I will be asking the Troop tonight if they want to stay overnight on Saturday night.  If so, we will arrive a little later than normal and we can sleep in on Saturday morning since the Urban Air does not open until 11:00 am.  I will not be able to stay all day.  I can stay until about 2 pm.I will be checking with the other leaders to see if there will be adults.  I will know more later tonight.

UrbanAir:
Sky Rider, Ropes Course, Climbing Walls, Warrior Course, Battle Beam, Tubes - Indoor Playground, Climbing Hill, Basic Trampolines

Pie in the Face:
This is an annual tradition and an incentive for the Scouts to earn rank, merit badges and sell popcorn.  Every Scout who has completed three merit badges that are not Eagle required will be able to throw one pie, every Eagle required merit badge will be one pie each, every rank earned in 2022 will earn one pie throw and every $300 sold will earn one pie throw.  This will happen next week on December 20th.

Camp Oyo Backpacking Trip 11/11-13:
We had a fun backpacking event and everyone was able to earn the Polar Bear patch since we slept outside on Saturday night.  These will be awarded at the next Court of Honor.

NYLT:
The registration opened up and we have three Scouts registered now.  If you are First Class and above and want to participate, please let me know.

Recharter:
Recharter has been completed.  There will be some that may not be receiving an email after December.  If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know if you do not receive an email in January.

Summer Camp Camp Ransburg: June 25 - July 1:
We have a new campsite, Flatrock.  This was decided at the end of summer camp last year and is a really good spot near the main road and close to the showers.  Here is the message from Camp Ransburg:

Season’s Greetings from Camp Ransburg!

Thank you for registering your Troop for summer camp 2023. Whether your Troop is returning, or this will be their first time attending, we are excited for Scouts and leaders to experience all that Ransburg Scout Reservation has to offer!

If you have not already, now is the time to promote summer camp to your Scouts and families and get a commitment from them.  A great promotional tool is the new camp experience guide (attached.)  Inside this guide Scouts and adults can learn about the programs offered at Ransburg, as well as information to plan for camp. The 2023 camp fees have been published on the event page. Please start communicating the fees to your families now so that they can plan and prepare to make payments on time.

We are excited to announce that camp is going all inclusive. Much like an all-inclusive resort this means all standard programs and merit badges are included at no additional cost. Special programs or trips may have an onsite fee. This means no more standing in line at the trading post to buy merit badge kits or program tickets and more time having fun.

Over the next six months, we will be sending emails to help keep your unit up to date with important information and deadlines.  Please take a moment to verify that the person listed as the registration contact is indeed the correct person to receive these emails. If there is a volunteer who you think would benefit from receiving monthly emails, you can include their email address under the registration contact tab.

Thank you for putting your trust in us to provide your Scouts with a top notch and unparalleled summer camp experience. If you have any questions about your unit’s registration or the content in this email, please do not hesitate to contact me.

From all of us at the Crossroads of America Council, we wish you and your family a safe, healthy, and happy holiday!

If you are a First Class Scout and want to attend NYLT In 2023, please look at the dates and let me know.  Registrations fill up soon.  Normally the spring NYLT dates fill up very quickly.  The spring dates are normally taken in December or January and the summer dates are normally gone in January and February.  Let us know and you will put up a $100 deposit and you will receive the $100 deposit for attending and completing your bolo once you are done with both.  This is a great leadership opportunity for Scouts.

Scouts participating in other Scouting activities:
I strongly encourage Scouts to sign up and go to events, even if we do not go as a Troop.  I have participated in many events that we have signed up for on our own and attended.  You can participate in any events that are offered through our council and/or other councils.  I think these activities are great and if you are able, I encourage you to go and create your own adventure. If you go on your own, please do so knowing that you represent the Troop.  If you are joining another Troop for an event, please let the Scoutmaster know before attending.

August

 Hi Troop 136!

We have a Troop meeting tomorrow night!  I see on the Band app one of the games is to pitch a tent.  Bring your tent tomorrow night.

Put-In-Bay Trip
Since the Camporee was cancelled and I suggested the PLC get some ideas together, but since I did not see much on the Band app for the PLC, I thought I would see if we were to continue to go to the Put-In-Bay area and just do our own trip.  We have four adults and there are 12 Scouts.  We will have room for four people in each vehicle.  We will camp nearby the Miller Ferry and travel to the island and do the adventures we have done in the past, but on our own as a Troop.  We will rent a golf cart and visit the attractions.  We will need to pack lunch for Saturday or plan to eat on the island.  I think I will let the Troop decide what they want to do at the beginning of the meeting tomorrow night.  If they want to continue with this idea, we will use this permission form for those in attendance.  We might be able to do the trip for less than $75.  That will depend on where we camp and the cost of the golf carts.

Court of Honor:  We will not be able to access the building on September 20th. Our Court of Honor will be on September 27th. The PLC has requested access to the parking lot area.  I will find out if we can use the firepit area.  I will also challenge the PLC to think about visiting a location other than the church since we have the ability to do so.  Think about where you would like to go as a Troop.  We will talk tomorrow night to see if there is an interest in going to another location for this night for a meeting.

Arts in the Alley parade September 17th:
We will have the opportunity to earn service hours by carrying the flag for the beginning of the parade on September 17th.  Plan to be at the CVS at the corner of US Highway 62 and Southwest BLVD at 8:30.  The parade begins at 9:30 and we are normally done by about 10:00 am.  You can meet your Scout at Park Street Intermediate at 10:00 am.

Creek Sweep October 8th:
This date was changed.  I had it wrong on my calendar.  This is the same date for the Three Eagles Shootout.
I will see if we have Scouts interested in the Three Eagles Shootout or the Creek Sweep.  We cannot do both.

October 14-16 Campout
Since the Creek Sweep has been moved to the 8th, we will have time to do this weekend.  What does the Troop want to do?  We have some time to plan this, so bring your ideas.  This campout will be at First Baptist on Orders Road in Grove City.

August

   Hi Troop 136!

We have a Troop meeting tonight!  It will be focused on advancement so bring your books so we can update Scoutbook. You will also be able to meet with leaders individually to get some advancement signed off in preparation for the Court of Honor this month. The PLC will begin meeting at 6:30 in the FLC and will plan the meetings for September and October.  The PLC had a meeting scheduled on Sunday, but with a lot of activities, only two Scouts were able to make it.  So the decision was made to include some time at the meeting tonight to plan and also allow Scouts to update their Scout Books and work on advancements they want to be as part of the September Court of Honor.

Court of Honor:  We will not be able to access the building on September 20th. Our Court of Honor will be on September 27th.

September 9-11 Port Clinton campout:
Here is the permission form for the campout.  We will plan to meet at the church at 4:30 pm and plan to leave at 5:00 pm.  I know this may mean that some Scouts may need to have things packed before they go to school on the 9th, but this will allow us three hours to travel to Port Clinton in traffic during rush hour and I hope we can get there with at least a little bit of daylight to set up tents.

Arts in the Alley parade:
We will have the opportunity to earn service hours by carrying the flag for the beginning of the parade on September 17th.  Plan to be at the CVS at the corner of US Highway 62 and Southwest BLVD at 8:30.  The parade begins at 9:30 and we are normally done by about 10:00 am.  You can meet your Scout at Park Street Intermediate at 10:00 am.

Creek Sweep October 15th:
There were a few changes that happened at the Troop Committee meeting.  It was decided that the Troop wanted to help with the city planned event for the Creek Sweep.  This is a combination event for both the city and Troops and allows Scout to earn the three hours of Conservation most of them need for advancement.  I will send out a signup later for the Creek Sweep.
Creek Sweep: October 15th at 8:00-12:00

We will be having a campout that weekend to help the Scouts earn camping nights.  This will be planned for both Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th.  The morning will be helping with the Creek Sweep and the afternoon will be focused on advancement activities that will be planned by the PLC.  A merit badge or other activity that needs more time to complete could be done this afternoon into the evening.  This is also the same weekend the Pack will be camping.  This campout will be at First Baptist on Orders Road in Grove City.

Camp Oyo Backpacking Trip 11/11-13:
This event will still happen, but a little later than originally planned because of the Creek Sweep.  Here is the signup!  Sign up by October 4th:

August

 Hi Troop 136!

I hope that you are enjoying the last few days before school starts.  I has been a very eventful summer with all of the stuff you normally do with the family and with the Scouts.  I hope you had a great time and made a lot of memories.  These are important because you will look back and enjoy the fond memories.  Take a lot of pictures so that you can reflect on the many memories that you are making in the future.

Meeting on August 16th:
At the August 16th meeting, there will be fewer people there.  I know that Jackson Middle School and Grove City Christian have their Open House tonight.  Grove City High School has their schedule pick-up this afternoon for incoming freshmen.  Payton will be the SPL tonight and Roland Guay will be the Scoutmaster tonight.  Zack has already contacted those in charge of the flags and the skills activity.  His plan was to meet outside the entire month of August, so please plan to meet at the firepit area.
The monthly planning theme is  Fishing.

Meeting on August 2nd:

Yearly Planning:
This Sunday, July 31, the PLC will be meeting to discuss the plan for next year.  They need your input.  Use this link to help with the planning for next year:
Even if you are not part of the PLC, you are more than welcome to come to the planning meeting at 3 pm.  You may come and your family may come as well.  I will share the results of the planning meeting once the Committee has approved the plan for the rest of 2022 and for all of 2023.

July

 Hi Troop 136!

I hope you are recovering from the two weeks of summer camp this summer.  I was able to take a well deserved afternoon nap on Saturday afternoon and started to unpack.  We had a great time.  I will add photos to the Band app soon.  I am on vacation this week so Ron Newcomb will be the Scoutmaster tonight and Roland Guay will be the Scoutmaster next week on July 26th while I am away attending the National Order of the Arrow Conference in Knoxville Tennessee.  It should be a great time.  I know you will have a great time as well.

Meeting plans:
Opening - Alpha Dogs patrol
Skills Instruction - Explain the safety of the buddy system and buddy checks.
Henry will be presenting about this topic tonight.

The PLC wanted to do something different.  This meeting will be at Deer Creek.  The plan was to go swimming and have a fun dinner with hot dogs and hamburgers.  Sign up here if you are going next week.  Please sign up by Sunday, July 24th to allow time to purchase hot dogs and hamburgers for the event.
We will need a couple of adults to help with watching the Scouts swim.  Use the sign up genius to let us know if you can help with this.  I recommend at least one watching the Scouts swim take the safe swim defense course.  We will not need a lifeguard if we have an adult that has completed the safe swim defense course because it is a state park and the area where we will be swimming has a known depth.

August and September Events:  (I will send a signup genius later today for this event)
Columbus Clippers - August 5th
I sent an email seeking to see if people were interested in a Columbus Clippers overnight.  It seems they have both an overnight option and an option to just attend the game.  The prices are below.  I have included a signup genius.  We will use your Scout account to collect money for the payment.  I will leave the signup genius open until next Tuesday night.  I will close it and purchase the tickets on Wednesday next week.  Please sign up by Tuesday night.
Here is the signup genius for the Clippers game.
