Note: Please wear a mask at indoor events so that we can continue to have events and meetings. I am hopeful that at some point this year we will not have to continue this practice, but for the time being, please do so while indoor at activities.
Camping this weekend:
We will go camping this weekend at MVSR. We are scheduled to be in the building for the nights, but please bring your cots with you since there are limited bunks in the building. Plan to dress warmly for the weather. I am not sure of how much snow is on the ground so please wear warm clothing and boots. You will more than likely be walking in snow.
Day of Giving:
You might have seen some advertisements about the Day of Giving. The kick off was yesterday and will run through the end of the month. Please consider a donation. Here is the website: https://skcscouts.
You can choose to use a credit card or pledge like me and get a letter to send in a check later. Please consider donating because every child deserves the ability to learn, to excel and to enjoy their childhood. Simon Kenton Council believes in the power of providing youth with a Scouting experience, and because of this, you can contribute to the Day of Giving. Let me know if you have any questions.
Court of Honor:
Court of Honor:
There will be a Court of Honor next Tuesday, January 25th. It will begin at 7 pm. Plan to arrive early to help setup seating for the parents. Scouts will have the option of getting their pictures taken in their uniforms so please dress ready to take a photo. There will be an area setup for Scouts to take pictures before and after the Court of Honor.
January Campout:
We have a campout this month on January 22-23. Plan to arrive at the church at 5:30 on Saturday morning. We will load up the personal gear and travel to MVSR that morning. I would like for us to arrive at 8 am so that we can be there before it starts at 8:30 am. I am hopeful that we might be able to drop off our gear in the cabin before class starts. We will purchase food for the campout on Friday night before the Pinewood Derby. We will meet at Meijer at 4:30 pm on January 21st. If you want to learn how to purchase food, please plan to join us. When you purchase the food, you get to make some decisions about what you are eating that weekend.

This will be our first Court of Honor since September and a great opportunity for Scouts to learn how to emcee an event for their Communications Merit Badge. I look forward to this event and I hope family members can join us for this time of fun.

Summer Camp:
Can you believe we are already starting to plan for summer camp? Camp Ransburg sent me an email asking for us to put a $50 per person deposit down for summer camp. They would like for this to be done during the next week. I know this is quick, but I am passing this along to you now knowing that you could still be added later. They are trying to determine campsites based on deposits and starting to order materials they need for summer camp. I will put a $50 deposit for your son to attend summer camp.
We will have two weeks of summer camp with the first at Camp Ransburg, June 25-July 2 and another week July 10-16 at Camp Falling Rock. The focus would be for your Scout to attend Camp Ransburg, but I know that some like to earn more advancement and so we have scheduled another week at Camp Falling Rock so they can maximize their time at camp or if there is a conflict with the first week of camp.
