Campouts, SCUBA, Religious Sunday, and PLC meetings

Hi Troop 136!

There are two forms that are time sensitive and are due at the next troop meeting on February 4th.  These are the Chief Logan Klondike Permission Form and the SCUBA Diving Permission Form.  I need to register our Scouts and Adults by February 7th for the Chief Logan Campout.  I also need to make the down payment for Rick's SCUBA by February 7th to reserve our spot for those interested in the one hour introduction course.  The third item is due on February 11th for the Maple Fest in March.

Campout - February 14-16  Permission Form is due February 4th
The PLC voted on January 22nd to attend the Chief Logan Klondike.  We will meet at the church at 6 pm and leave at 6:30 on February 14th.  Plan for cold weather camping that weekend.  We will be sleeping in tents. We will have lunch and dinner provided at the Dining Hall by the staff.  This means that we will only provide a cracker barrel and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.  The cost is $25 Scouts, $20 for adults. There are several Scouts who need to earn the Cooking Merit Badge.  This is the time to work on those requirements.  You will work with the counselor to complete requirement #5.

SCUBA Diving - February 29th Permission Form is due February 4th
The PLC wanted to go SCUBA Diving this year.  This is an event we will have on Saturday, February 29th.  It is open to youth and adults.  You will need to be a swimmer for this event.  If you passed the test last summer, you will not need to retest.  If you did not pass and want to take the test if you did not pass the test, you can schedule with the Scoutmaster to take the test or you can show up and they will administer the test at the pool before we begin the one hour introduction to SCUBA Diving.

Campout Maple Fest - March 6-8, 2020 Permission Form is due February 11th
We are helping with the Maple Fest at this campout.  Our station will be the rope station.  The Scouts will be able to work in teams on this event.  Only one team will have to be at the rope station during the day.  This will allow the other team (s) to go and explore the Maple Fest.  The teams will take turns showing Cub Scouts the rope station.

Religious - Scout Sunday, Duty to God on February 9th
Here is the signup for the event.  We need more Scouts to participate.  Right now, there are only two that have signed up!  Be at the church at 8:30.  We will begin handing out the programs.  If you want to help pass out the collection plates and even read some scripture to the church, please let me know.
Here is the signup for Scout Sunday:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050d49aca62fa1fe3-scout
Jim Rose is also working on a plan for our troop to offer to our Scouts the Duty to God presentation to the Scouts.  The Duty to God will be done over three months and will be a great opportunity for our Scouts to learn more about the program what they can do to honor him while in Scouting.  Here is the website for more information:   https://www.scouting.org/awards/religious-awards/    and    https://filestore.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/512-879_WB.pdf

PLC Meeting (Patrol Leader's Council Meeting) Goals:
When we finished the training of our PLC this month on January 26th, I challenged each Scout to set goal(s) they want to accomplish while they are in leadership positions.  Below are the goal(s) they have set for the next three months.  Our next troop elections will be held on May 5th.  At that time, I will ask each Scout who have served in their positions what they were able to accomplish during these three months.  If they want to be reelected or want to run for office, they need to focus on these goals and the accomplishment of these goals.  I am very excited about our PLC and the progress they have made so far.  Here are the goals and my goals as well:

January 2020

Hi!  Many of our Scouts will be enjoying a four day weekend coming up.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Campout:
There were eight Scouts and three adults who traveled to Camp Manatoc for the weekend.  We camped in a nice cabin called "Gilwell" with heat on Friday night and traveled to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday morning.  We spent the day on Saturday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and ate lunch on the benches outside of the location.  I was quite surprised by the number of items from thousands of artists.  Every Scout had something different that they liked about the museum, even something as simple as stickers were fun.  Everyone really enjoyed this trip.  However, the high winds during the day on Saturday caused us to lose power during the day and it came back on during the night to provide us with some heat and we were grateful.   Here is the link for the photos of the trip:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/iKPG7fpJWUjxSbzY9

Here is a reminder about what to bring tomorrow night for the potluck:
Blackhawks - Main Dish
Blue Blazes - Dessert
Dragons - Side Dish

Meeting Plan:
Ian Ba will be the MC of the Court of Honor.  Here is the schedule:
7:00 - Flag ceremony
7:05 - Introductions and prayer and begin eating
7:40 - Friends of Scouting presentation
7:50 - Begin the Court of Honor
8:20 - Finish the Court of Honor
8:20 - 8:30 Cleanup

Cleanup:
Before each Scout leaves, the folding chairs need to be put away, the tables need to be put away and the grey soft padded chairs need to be setup as four rows of about 7 rows.  This takes about 10-15 minutes with everyone is helping.

Friends of Scouting Presentation:
We will have a presentation regarding the Friends of Scouting fundraiser.  Please plan to bring a check or money to donate.  I donate every year.  I hope you consider donating as well this year.  Our council will probably make some tough decisions very soon about closing camps and those decisions will be based on the amount of money raised during the Friends of Scouting donations this year.

January and February events, Mystery Campout and summer camp...

Happy New Year!

As we begin this year, I hope that you have enjoyed the time with friends and family.  I know these past few weeks are busy for most, so I hope you enjoyed the time with them.  I know I enjoyed my time with friends and family.

PLC Meeting: We will again meet at 3 pm for the PLC Meeting with training first, dinner will be offered (pizza), and then planning for the month of January and February.  The January focus will be on Camping.

Committee Meeting: Please plan to attend the Committee Meeting at 6 pm.

January Campout: We will be going to Camp Manatoc and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this month.  We have 13 people going, 8 youth and 5 adults.  We have already purchased the tickets to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  We will have a focus on cooking for the scouts and visiting the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Court of Honor:  Our Court of Honor will be on Tuesday, January 14th.  More details to follow after the Committee Meeting.

February: We will meet during the month and discuss the topic Caving.  Our monthly activity right now is a trip to see the Buckeyes hockey game on Friday, February 14th.  Our plan would be to stay at the church on Friday night and then go karting and to an Escape Room on Saturday, February 15th.  More details to follow.

Mystery Campout:  We had a parent meeting about the event.  If you need more details about the event, please see me personally.  I will be able to share these with you privately.  Since there are Scouts on this email, I will not be including this type of information in this email.

New Years Resolution:  I know that some of you have made or are considering making some resolutions to start the year.  I have considered some as the Scoutmaster of the troop.  I want to thank you for being patient with me this past year as the new Scoutmaster.  I will be sharing these at the Committee Meeting tomorrow night.

Summer Camp:  As a reminder, our troop will be attending MVSR June 28 - July 4.  There is also an opportunity for those that want to go to another week to go to Chief Logan July 5 - 11.  Going to Chief Logan should not be in lieu of summer camp at MVSR.  I wanted for the scouts to have the opportunity to experience Chief Logan should the council decide to close the camp this year.
