May Newsletter

Good afternoon!

1. Scoutmaster Newsletter - This newsletter is a little late in the month, but we have had a lot going on. I will start to produce these at the beginning of the month going forward along with the permission slips for our activity that month.
2. Greenlawn Cemetery - We have a great opportunity to help Greenlawn Cemetery on Saturday morning to find the gravestones of the veterans that may be missing their gravestones.
-Sign up tonight and pick up a map of the location.
-Meet at the Huntington Chapel at 9:30 am. See attached map or the map that you pick up tonight.
- They will supply pencils, notepads and maps to sections of the cemetery where we know Civil War Veterans are buried but likely have no headstones.
-Your troop will be split into groups, depending on adult supervision available. We ask the scouts to try and locate and log for us any missing headstones with a note as to the section being searched and then write down the names of those without stones.
-Scouts will return to Huntington Chapel at 11:00 am to return maps and notes and then for a short ceremony followed by lunch on us.

Travel Warning:
Avoid taking Frank Road east to Harmon Road, as the intersection at Harmon will be closed. I suggest coming north on 62 to W. Mound Street, then turn right or east on Mound. Follow Mound and it turns into Harmon and that will lead you to Greenlawn Avenue. Turn right and enter the cemetery. On the map below, enter the cemetery and follow the green road to section 56, which is also marked Chapel. We will be behind the chapel getting organized.

3. Flight 93 - We will be choosing between 3 different options for next weekend's adventure.
Option #1 - Travel directly to the campground on Friday afternoon. We would leave at 1 pm.
Option #2 - Travel to the West Virginia State Penitentiary and visit the prison and travel to campground on Friday night. We would leave at 7:30 am.
Option #3 - Travel to Grand Vue Park. Spend the day on the ropes course and travel to the campground on Friday night. We would leave at 7:30 am.
Note - One item that I did not take into account was the school schedules for all of the students. I was using the SWCS school calendar and not any other school calendar. Please share with me if your son still has school on Friday, May 31 and would not be able to attend if we left early on Friday morning or in the early afternoon. I do not want for them to miss out on an opportunity if they are still in school.

Yours in Scouting,

Phil
