 Hi Troop 136!


Gantz Farm Service:
So far we have two adults who are staying at Gantz Farm tonight. If we could have one more, that would be great!   I would suggest you bring a cot to sleep on. It looks to be wet tonight.  
SPL Elections:
Next week is the SPL Elections.  We have two candidates right now, but we will still accept nominations Tuesday night.

This past Tuesday night's meeting:
Thanks for those Scouts and adults who came to the virtual meeting on Tuesday night.  While having a virtual meeting is not ideal, I appreciate the time and effort it took to make this happen.  We cannot predict the weather and sometimes the weather dictates what we can and cannot do.  Nice job to those who made it happen!

Merit badge books for summer camp:
If you are taking a merit badge this summer, please take some time to review the merit badge books and sign out some of the books that you might need this summer.  We will talk about this tonight at the meeting.


May 13-15 Campout:
We will have a campout that is close to home to allow for the new Scouts to join us and for those that may want to participate in the merit badge clinic to do so.  Please turn in the permission form by next Tuesday.  We will plan to buy food on Thursday, May 12th.  We will be checking out the camping area to be sure there is no water in the area like last year.

Our monthly theme for meetings is Financial Management.  Here is the meeting plan for this week, 4/5/22:  

These events that are coming up soon that need your attention:
1. Mulch Delivery: 
This is a message from Jeff Colborn:
"Group,
We have had record mulch sales this year, over 4500 bags!  
The good news is we will not have to worry about getting sunburned this weekend.  The bad news is the weather does not look that great for this weekend.  We will be spreading and delivering mulch rain or shine.  Please dress appropriately as it looks like it will be cool.  Remember to wear old clothes, boots, hats, and gloves.  
I will be working all day on Friday.  Please come as early as you can.  If you think you can arrive before 4:00 please let me know."
All family members are welcome to join in the fun as we help make yards look amazing!

2.  Shane's Eagle Scout Court of Honor:
It looks like we have enough people to help with the lighting of the candles.  If you are planning to attend, please let the family know by RSVP using the link below.  They have asked that you let them know by Tuesday if you plan to attend.  I know it also says March 27th, but they extended this for the Troop.  If you have a younger Scout that is looking to become an Eagle Scout in the future, this is a great way to get some ideas.  Please sign up if you plan to go using this link:

3.  Big Trip to Washington DC this summer will be June 11-14:
Please take a look at the trip to Washington DC and be sure that I have everything correct:
 Washington DC Trip June 11-14

We will travel down on Saturday and visit Antietam together.  We will stay in a group camp site on Saturday and then travel to Washington DC on Sunday.  Once we leave on Sunday morning, you may go visit sites as a family and we will plan to meet at the campsite for dinner that night.  We will stay at the Greenbelt Campground on Monday and Tuesday nights.  Monday after breakfast you may visit the sites that you want to do as a family.  We will get together for dinner.  We will eat breakfast and pack up the trailer and visit Arlington Cemetery on Tuesday before we head back home.  Once we are done at Arlington, you may travel back on your own.

4. Camp Ransburg:
Here is the signup for Camp Ransburg.  You will need to submit the rest of payment by April 12th for the early bird discounted rate of $400.  Here is the website for more information.

5. Camp Falling Rock Week #4 July 10-16:
Here is the signup genius for Camp Falling Rock. Camp will cost $300 and is due by March 22nd.

6. Summer Camp 2023:
Use this link to give suggestions for us to research for our March and April PLC Meetings.  We will make plans to visit a couple of camps this summer to see if this might be something that we want to do next summer.
SPL David - maybe this is something that we could do during our Patrol Meetings this week?  Give the Scouts some time to look for some really cool camps near us so that we can go visit this summer.  What do you think?

 Hi Troop 136!


Our monthly theme for meetings is Caving.  Here is the meeting plan for this week:  3/22/22

With the nice weather coming this week, it will be nice to get outside.  I hope that you are able to take some time to go outside and get some fresh air this week.  Who knows, maybe the Scouts would like to meet outside if we have nice weather!

This is our last meeting until spring break.  Don't forget the due date this week. We need payment for summer camp at Camp Falling Rock and at least a $50 deposit for Camp Ransburg. 

There will be no Troop meeting during spring break.  Enjoy the time with family.

Mulch Information:
Earn money by helping with mulch!  We are looking a little light on the Scout sign up for helping with mulch.  Please sign up here to help out:

Shane Fuller's Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be April 10:
Shane is looking for help with his Eagle Scout Court of Honor on April 10.  Sign up to help him with his Eagle Scout Court of Honor.  His Court of Honor will be held at Eagle Pavilion at Fryer Park.  It starts at 6 pm, but those helping will need to arrive early to practice their parts.

The spreadsheet lists the number of people participating. In the second tab, it lists the number of vehicles and those in the vehicles.  If you know that you are going as a family, please include that in the spreadsheet.  This will also help with the planning of the meals for the trip.  If you do not want to participate in the meals, that is not a problem.  I just need to know how many for the meals so that we can plan accordingly.
 Washington DC Trip June 11-14

Washington DC Itinerary Updated:
Saturday June 11 - Travel to Antietam, lunch on your own and visit the battlefield.  Travel to the campsite and camp nearby that night
Sunday June 12 - Travel to Washington DC and visit sites.  Lunch will be on your own and dinner will be at the campground.
Monday June 13 - visit Washington DC sites
Tuesday June 14 - pack up and visit Arlington Cemetery since this is Flag Day.  I thought it would be appropriate to visit this morning because there would not be a lot of visitors and because of the significance of the day.  You would leave when you wanted after the visit to Arlington Cemetery to travel back home.

I think we could make the trip happen with about $70 per person with some food on your own during the trip.

Camp Ransburg:
If you still want to go, it is not too late to join us.  Let me know as soon as you can so that I can register you.  You will have access to the link to register for your summer merit badges.  We currently have 14 Scouts and several adults.  I will need to know about mid-March the number of adults that want to attend summer camp.  Your registration will be paid for by the Troop.  We appreciate you taking the time to be with us and help us with some coverage during the week of summer camp.  Let me know if you are interested.

Our monthly theme for meetings is Caving.  Here is the meeting plan for this week:  3/8/22

I have my meeting with Apple again so I will join the meeting once it is done. Roland will be the Scoutmaster for tonight's meeting.

Big Trip to Washington DC this summer will be June 11-14:
Below is the spreadsheet of people going so far.  Please let us know soon if you are planning to go as well as your parents and family members.  I have made the reservations for the camping at Antietam, Maryland and at Greenbelt Campground in Washington DC.  I have placed the names based on what I think will be happening based on the conversations with the families, but I want to be sure this is correct.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Washington DC Big Trip in 2022:
$50 Deposit on March 1st.
I have been asked if we could move it back one weekend.  We can discuss it tonight at the meeting.  I know one family already made plans to change something they had planned on June 11th to join us.    Is there anyone that was planning to go on the Washington DC trip that would not be able to attend the following weekend, June 16-19?  It would be Father's Day on that Sunday.  We would probably visit Arlington on Father's Day and travel home on our own.  Let me know your thoughts at the meeting to move it back to the next weekend.

NYLT:
Are you a First Class Scout who is interested in taking a leadership course to improve your ability to lead others?

Please let me know if you are interested in attending the NYLT courses.  We ask for the Scout to pay a $100 deposit up front.  Once the Scout completes the course and required work to receive their Bolo, they will be able to receive the $100 deposit back.  The course costs $200 to attend. The Troop will take care of the registration once you let us know that you are interested.  Do not make the reservation for yourself.  If you do so, you will not be eligible for the Troop to give you back your $100 deposit.  The Troop will pay for the training course, but we want to be sure the Scout is committed and follows through on their commitment.

Summer Camp 2023:
I know it seems like a long way off, but we decided as a Troop Committee to visit camps as a two year rotation.  We decided to visit one outside camp and one camp within Simon Kenton Council.  What camps would you want to visit next year?  What camps do you think you might want to visit this summer to see programs that you might want to go to next year during summer camp?

 Hi Troop 136!


Here is the meeting plan for this week:

Isaac will be the SPL tonight.  Please help him be successful tonight.

Roland will be the Scoutmaster tonight.  I will be there, but I will be on a call with Apple again.

Order of the Arrow members, please remember to wear your sash tonight.  We will elect new members of the Order of the Arrow tonight.

February Campout:
Here is the campout form for February.  The signup for this campout is due tonight:

Camp Ransburg Summer Camp:
The due date to sign up for Camp Ransburg using the Signup Genius is Tuesday, February 15th.   I will make a payment for our Scouts using the $50 deposit.  This will ensure that you can sign up for merit badges in March or April.  No date has been given yet.

Camp Falling Rock Week #4 July 10-16:
We need to decide where we will be camping this summer.  Here are the available campsites:
Here is the signup genius for Camp Falling Rock.  I am not sure on the details yet, but it looks like the cost of the camp will be $300 and due by March 22nd.

Maple Fest:
Our next campout is March 4-6.  I will be sending out the permission for in the next email, but wanted to be sure you had this on your calendar.  The due date for this permission will be February 22.  That is only three weeks away!

Scout Dues Increasing:

Big Trip in 2022:
I asked the PLC to give me some ideas for a big trip idea this year and they had a lot of ideas.  One of the ideas was something that most of them agreed upon.  They wanted to go back to something similar to Gettysburg and also visit Washington DC.  There was also a suggestion of visiting the Appalachian Trail.  Based on these recommendations, we will begin to plan a trip to Washington DC, June 11-14.  We will stop to visit Antietam National Battlefield and John Brown Fort near Hagerstown and Harper's Ferry along the way.  Both of these places were very significant during the Civil War.  We will spend Sunday June 12 through Tuesday, June 14 in Washington DC.  We will travel back on June 14th.
